TINSUKIA: Anticipating total lockdown in Tinsukia district from this week, people came out in large numbers to buy essential items, including fish and vegetables, on Monday, caring little about social distancing and other COVID-19 protocol even as the number of positive cases has been swelling on a daily basis. Almost lawlessness is prevailing in Tinsukia after a section of law enforcing persons, including magistrates, preferred to remain indoors after Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia, Bhaskar Pegu tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday.

After 16 persons, including the Tinsukia DC, tested positive, the number of cases spiked to 529 in Tinsukia district while Sadiya MLA Bolin Chetia, who was undergoing treatment at GNB Civil Hospital at Tinsukia, was released on Sunday after recovery.
