GUWAHATI: As the Assam panchayat elections inch closer, Bhupen Borah, the President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), has announced the receipt of 17 complaints concerning financial irregularities in ticket distribution across five districts. In light of these allegations, the APCC President has proposed to Jitendra Singh, a representative of the Congress high command, the immediate establishment of an inquiry committee.

Borah has put forward the names of senior Congress leaders Gaurav Gogoi, Pawan Singh Ghatowar, and Debabrata Saikia to lead this investigation. He assured that the committee would conduct a comprehensive inquiry and that strict actions would be taken against anyone found guilty of misconduct.

During the press conference, Borah expressed his dissatisfaction with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly failing to address corruption within its ranks. He specifically targeted Pijush Hazarika for allegedly taking money from a syndicate and condemned the absence of accountability in the scandals of Padma Hazarika. Borah blamed the ruling party for allegedly using fear to intimidate Congress candidates, using "money power, muscle power, and police" to silence opposition.

Responding to queries about ongoing discussions regarding opposition unity, Borah said these discussions are not tied directly to the panchayat elections, stating that the opposition strategy would be announced after the election outcome on May 11.

Borah's statement highlights the Congress party's efforts to combat internal strife and external pressures while they attempt to present a united front and reaffirm their vows for transparency and accountability in the politics of Assam.
