Apeejay Tea Limited employees staged 8-hour sit-in protest for non-payment of dues

TINSUKIA/DOOMDOOMA: The employees of Apeejay Tea Limited resorted to 8-hour sit-in in front of respective office premises from 6am to 4pm on Friday for non-payment of arrear dues in gross violation of agreement. The gardens which observed the strike were Talap, Khoobang, Badlabheta, Sukhanguri, Hilika, Longsowal, Chotahapjan and Pengeree besides the staff of Talap central factory and Longsowal central hospital.

The aggrieved employees informed that in October 2019, in a tripartite agreement among the Assam Chah Karmachari Sangha (ACKS), CCPA and ABITA it was resolved that the arrear of the 19 months enhanced salary would be released in 3 instalments-within December 31 for 9 months, within March 31 for 5 months and the rest amounts for 5 months before June 30, 2020. But the company declined to release the 1st instalment in December 2019 on various pleas primarily poor generation of revenue.

The employees further informed that the management of Apeejay Tea Limited has been defaulter in depositing employees’ PF for last 6 months. Claiming that non-submission of PF been a serious offence, the company allegedly halted new recruitment and promotional prospects, said the aggrieved employees. They also indicated to launch rigorous stir if their demands were not fulfilled soon.
