APL celebrates 98th birthday of Assam’s first chemical engineer

Namrup: DN Baruah, the first chemical engineer of Assam who is now the Director of Assam Petro-Chemicals Limited (APL), celebrated his 98th birthday recently at the company’s Guwahati registered office along with many officials.

During APL’s incorporation in the year 1971, the company was promoted by Assam Industrial Development Corp (AIDC) and DN Baruah was the Managing Director of AIDC at that time. Apart from the contribution towards the development of APL, he also started off the industrial environment in Assam in the year 1958 and left his mark as the president and the man behind the growth of Gauhati Stock Exchange (GSE) and Gauhati Management Association (GMA). He also contributed greatly towards the designing of Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (erstwhile Namrup Fertilizer) as its Project in-charge and was also associated with Sindri Fertilizer in Jharkhand.
