HAFLONG: Organizations of both Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to declare the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Hills District and Dima Hasao Autonomous Hills District of Assam, as 'autonomous state' under the provision of Article-244 (A) of the Indian Constitution at the mass public rally to be held at Den Arong on February 25, stated a press release by Sing Timung, general secretary of Karbi Anglong-North Cachar Hills Autonomous State Demand Committee (KANCHASDCOM), on Monday.

The organizations like Karbi Anglong-North Cachar Hills Autonomous State Demand Committee (KANCHASDCOM), Karbi Students' Association (KSA), Dimasa Students' Union (DSU) Karbi Adorbar (Karbi community apex body), All Apex Bodies Co-ordination Committee (an umbrella of 11 apex bodies of Dima Hasao Autonomous Hills District of Assam), Karbi Riso Adorbar (KRA), Karbi So-arlo Amel (KARSA), and Karbi Unemployed Youths' Association (KUYA), have been leading the movement since 1986 for the full implementation of Article-244(A) of the Indian Constitution. The organizations have welcomed Amit Shah at Den Árong in Karbi Anglong Autonomous Hills District on February 25.

Timung said that they had learnt from some sources that some militant outfits of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Hills District and Dima Hasao Autonomous Hills District of Assam would lay down arms and ammunition and they welcomed it. They have also come to know that an accord would be signed between the militant outfits, the Government of Assam, and the Government of India. So, the organizations have appealed to the militant outfits of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Hills District and Dima Hasao Autonomous Hills District of Assam not to sign any accord which provided less than autonomous state under the provision of Article-244(A) of the Indian Constitution.
