Archana Mahanta, acclaimed folk singer from Assam, suffers brain stroke

Guwahati: Archana Mahanta, renowned Assamese singer known for timeless classics such as 'Brahmaputra Balire', has suffered a brain stroke on Tuesday, July 14.

According to reports, the acclaimed folk singer has been admitted to Guwahati's Health City Hospital. Although she was in a serious condition yesterday, she is doing far better now.

Archana is the widow of the late Khagen Mahanta (who passed away in 2014) and is the mother of youth hearthrob Angaraag "Papon" Mahanta. She has two grandchildren, Puhor and Parijaat. She also has a daughter, Kingkini Mahanta.

Khagen and Archana performed together on many occasions, popularising Assamese folk music and earning a name as the most popular duet singers. Their melodious live performances are still talked about to this day.
