BOKO: The death of SI Junmoni Rabha has caused a stir across the State. Meanwhile, hundreds of members of the All Rabha Students’ Union (ARSU), Sixth Schedule Demand Committee (SSDC), All Rabha Women Council (ARWC), Rabha Sahitya Sabha and other sister organizations blocked the National Highway 17 in Sakhati and simultaneously in Bamunigaon in Kamrup district on Wednesday.

The activists sat on the NH-17 for half-an-hour and shouted various slogans against the State Government, Nagaon Police, Former Nagaon Superintendent of Police Leena Doley, etc.

Kabita Rabha, Secretary, ARWC said, “We staged a protest to demand justice for SI Junmoni Rabha. The investigation must be done by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) instead of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). We had protested to demand CBI investigation for this case on May 16 and the Chief Minister had also announced a CBI enquiry. But till today, the government has not handed over the case to the CBI.”

She also urged the government to reserve close Sub Inspector Abhajyoti Rabha and to interrogate him in SI Junmoni Rabha’s death. Pradip Rabha, secretary, ARSU, said, “The state home department has not taken up the case investigation expeditiously. Junmoni Rabha’s mother has submitted a written complaint against many police officers, but we have not seen any action taken against them yet.” Rabha also urged the people of Assam to light candles on Friday evening on the occasion of theSI Junmoni Rabha’s commemoration ceremony.

Ashok Rabha, secretary, SSDC, alleged that SI Junmoni Rabha’s death was not an accident but a murder. “SI Rabha served under SP Leena Doley. Instead of investigating the case, SP Leena Doley and her police team wants to show that it was an accident. All nine Rabha organizations will continue to protest till SI Junmoni Rabha gets justice,” said Ashok Rabha.
