Artificial Insemination and Management of FMD in Cattle discussed in Sonitpur

Tezpur: A day-long programme on the launch of National Animal Disease Control (NADCP) for FMD and Brucellosis and National Artificial Insemination Programme by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Mathura, UP, was webcast on Wednesday at KVK, Sonitpur.

The programme was organized by KVK, Sonitpur in collaboration with the District Veterinary Department, Sonitpur. Sanjukta Saikia, in-charge, Head, KVK, Sonitpur welcomed the farmers, dignitaries and participants at the event. Speaking on the occasion, DVO, Sonitpur, Dr. Binay Kumar Barman elaborated about the incidence of FMD and Brucellosis among cattle and control of these diseases. He also delivered a lecture on artificial insemination and its importance in cattle development.

President of Gaon Panchayat, Napam, Morjina Begum spoke about incidence of FMD among the cattle in the locality and how a collective approach of District Veterinary Department, Sonitpur and KVK functionaries could play a pivotal role in management of FMD and Brucellosis.

Highlighting the importance of artificial insemination and management of FMD in cattle, Dr. Gayatri Das, VO, DDL, Sonitpur delivered a lecture and she also interacted with the farmers regarding cattle disease management. A vaccination programme was also organized by KVK, Sonitpur in collaboration with District Veterinary Department, Sonitpur where around 69 cattle were vaccinated and two cases of Artificial Insemination were successfully carried out.

A ceremonial seed distribution programme of Blackgram and Greengram was also organized where Blackgram var. IPU-0-43 and Greengram var. IPM-02-14 were distributed among the farmers by Roji Chutia, SMS (Agronomy). Hundreds of farmers from various parts of the district took part in the programme.
