DIGBOI: Cracking hard against the unabated act of poaching along Assam-Arunachal border location under Digboi division in Tinsukia district, a team of Jagun forest arrested a 2nd IRBn constable from Tinkupani reserve forest in Tinsukia district.
According to official communication, the arrested individual was identified as Wangdem Siksa, a resident of Lazu’s Upper Kolam village in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The accused who was a constable at 2nd IRBn was attached to Police department at Jairampur in Changlang district was residing at Education Colony under Jairampur police station.
“Hearing a gunshot at the nearby border RF at night, a team of Jagun Forest Range at once swung into action that finally culminated into the arrest of the accused and recovery of a dead barking deer beside two sophisticated arms used in the perverted act,” said IFS TC Ranjith Ram, the DFO Digboi on Tuesday morning.
Such incident underscores the alarming extent to which poaching has infiltrated even the ranks of law enforcement,” said Ranjith Ram, the DFO of Digboi Division.
“We remain committed to combating this menace and bringing perpetrators to justice, regardless of their position or affiliation,” he said.
When contacted the 2nd IRBn Headquarters at Diyun, a well placed official informed that the forest department was yet to formally communicate the Aruanachal’s authority regarding the development.
Suspecting procedural lapses of the counterpart forest department the official told that upon receipt of official correspondence the IRBn department would have taken the cognizance conducting inquiry into the incident.
When asked about the arms employed in poaching, the official upon verification declined saying, “It’s not the government sanctioned arms.”
However based on a case no JN/09 of 2024-25 dt. 02-12-2024, the accused was prosecuted u/s W.P.A. 1972 U/S -9 ,39 (1), 44 49 (B), 51, 57.
