ASDMA holds monsoon preparedness review meet in Dima Hasao

Haflong: The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Dima Hasao and the District Administration, conducted a preparedness review meeting at the District Commissioner’s conference hall on Wednesday. The meeting brought together all Heads of Departments (HODs) of the line departments.

The primary agenda of the meeting was to review the disaster preparedness of various stakeholders in light of the approaching monsoon season.

The meeting was chaired by State Nodal Officers along with District Commissioner Simanta Kumar Das, ACS. Also present were Dharma Kanta Mili, ACS, Secretary to the Government of Assam, Revenue & Disaster Management; Dipankar Das, ACS, Joint Secretary, Revenue & DM; Ankur Bikash Dev, Programme Officer (DRR), ASDMA; and Mukunda Upadhyay from UNICEF.

A thorough discussion was held, during which various suggestions and procedures were deliberated upon. The meeting emphasized taking decisive steps to tackle recurring challenges such as flash floods and landslides during the monsoon.

During his presentation, Mukunda Upadhyay of UNICEF highlighted the importance of strengthening the district’s capacity to respond swiftly and effectively to flood-related and other emergencies. A comprehensive review of contingency plans was conducted, with special focus on efficient relief camp management and operational strategies.

Sangeeta Devi, ACS and Additional Deputy Commissioner, presented an overview of the district profile and the current condition of sites affected by recent incessant rainfall. The nodal officers appreciated the preparedness and efficiency demonstrated by the departments. The house also proposed several mitigation measures to address recurring damages during the monsoon season.
