Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha Bor Asom Sampriti Bota conferred to acclaimed actor Nipon Goswami

LAKHIMPUR: Along with the rest of the State, Asom Divas, commemorating Swargadew Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha, was observed by Lakhimpur district units of Tai-Ahom Yuba Parishad, Asom (TAYPA) and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Parishad on Monday.

On this occasion, TAYPA and AJYP jointly organized colourful programmes at Tyga Kshetra of North Lakhimpur town. In connection with the programme, the celebration committee introduced an award titled Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha Bor Asom Sampriti Bota from this year and senior artiste and cine actor of the State, Nipon Goswami was selected as the first recipient of the award. Because of the illness of the artiste, a delegation of the celebration committee conferred him the award on November 24 at his home. The award consists of Rs. 25,000 cash, a memento, a heng-dang, traditional male attire of the Ahom community with a turban.

On the other hand, the agenda of the programme began with the unfurling of the flag by celebration committee president Ajit Burhagohain. It was followed by the Smriti tarpan by celebration committee president Bikash Gogoi. Then Dam-phi was conducted following the tradition of the Tai Ahom community.

As a part of the programme, a colourful cultural rally was taken out with the participation of several cultural groups representing various castes and communities of the State. Popular small screen actor Pritam Kharghoria and actress Chumki Kachari took part in the cultural rally.

Moreover, a symposium on the topic ‘The liberal political ideology of Siu-Ka-Pha is the root factor for the formation of greater Assam’ was also held. A souvenir titled Bor Asom, edited by Dikpal Lahon and Hemanta Bonia was released in the open session of the event. Further, the celebration committee organized an exhibition-cum-competition in the evening on the traditional attires to promote the Edi, Silk and Muga industry of the State.

TAYPA State general secretary Diganta Tamuli and AJYP State general secretary Udayan Kumar Gogoi along with a galaxy of dignitaries representing several ethnic organizations of the State took part in the programme.
