Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) Stages Massive Protest Against CAB

GOLAGHAT: The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) Golaghat district committee staged protest near the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB). The protesters raised various slogans against the Narendra Modi-led BJP government as well as the Sarbananda Sonowal-led State government for taking anti-Assam policy to settle illegal Hindu migrants by amending the Citizenship Act.

Addressing the protesters, the president and secretary of the organization, Abdul Hasim and Nikunja Medhi respectively warned the BJP government not to think about settling Hindu migrants in Assam through CAB. They strongly condemned Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Golaghat AJYCP leaders further said that in spite of facing massive protest, the BJP government was looking for an opportunity to bring CAB to Assam. The Golaghat AJYCP leaders said that the Assamese people launched a six-year long agitation for deportation of foreigners and bringing economic development to Assam. They warned the BJP government not to think about implementing CAB otherwise AJYCP would launch a massive stir.

LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Thursday re-initiated the agitation programme opposing the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB).

By staging a two hour long sit-in at Court Tiniali of North Lakhimpur town, the organization demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Government to scrap the Bill and not to tabulate it in the upcoming session of the Parliament. The protesters, led by AJYCP Lakhimpur unit president Mondeep Neog and general secretary Jyoti Das, shouted slogans and displayed placards in support of their demand during the protest.

Further the organization submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur urging him to scrap the controversial Bill.

“We have noticed that your government has left no stone unturned and taken special attempts to pass the CAB which is apprehended as threats to the every arena of the Assamese society and the to entire North Eastern region, despite massive protests rendered by the people of the State. We feel that this initiative will bring tremendous threat to the democracy of the nation. We would like to clear it that we, the people of Assam, cannot accept this controversial Bill carrying threats to the existence of language, culture and the demographic structure of the State,” the memorandum stated. Under such circumstances, the organization demanded the intervention of the Prime Minister with regard to scrapping of the Bill through the memorandum.
