Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad Stages Protest against Subansiri Project

Tezpur: The Tezpur district committee of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on July 1 staged a sit-in near Tezpur Court Chariali demanding the scrapping of NHPC's Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Project and declaration of Assam flood as national problem.

The three-hour-long demonstration by the AJYCP was a part of the series of anti-dam agitations. AJYCP Tezpur district committee president Biswajit Kalita and general secretary Nripen Nath led the protest. The activists shouted slogans against the Prime Minister, State and the Central Government. The agitators later submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Deputy Commissioner, Sonitpur.
