SIVASAGAR: In a move to express their disappointment and disapproval for the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), the members of Asom Yuba Parishad (AYP), Sivasagar wing resigned on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference at Sibsagar Press Club, Parikshit Baruah, general secretary of AYP Sivasagar district committee, said, “The members and executives of Asom Yuba Parishad (AYP) Sivasagar District Committee have applied for resignation as they have not received any formal letter from AGP president Atul Bora against the CAA.”

Baruah said, “The decision was made in protest against the stand of the party leaders over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. As we all know that Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has not acted against the Act, for the sake of our motherland we will resign from our respective posts.” The Sivasagar constituency of AYP simultaneously resigned along with Asom Chatra Parishad, which is the student wing of AGP.
