GAURISAGAR: Asomiya Yuva Mancha (AYM) on Friday blocked NH-61 at Haluwating on the Assam-Nagaland border in protest against smuggling of illegal drugs and beef day by day. The activists of Asomiya Yuva Mancha blocked the national Highway 61 at Haluwating on the outskirts of Amguri town. Through the Circle Office (CO), Amguri, they sent a memorandum to the Sivasagar District Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Sivasagar, stating that although Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, is taking various steps to create a drug-free and addiction-free Assam, illegal drugs, including narcotics, are gradually increasing daily in the Haluating area of Amguri on the Assam-Nagaland border.

In the memorandum AYM also mentioned that some persons have defamed the area and destroyed the society by conducting illegal business in various fields. AYM said it is regrettable how these illegal activities are taking place despite the tight security of the police administration. They urged upon to take the matter seriously and investigate the matter and punish the culprits.
