Assam: 10-year-old Shikhi Kakati honoured with ‘Desh Ratna Award 2025’

10-year-old Shikhi Kakati from Morigaon, Assam, received the Desh Ratna Award-2025 in New Delhi for her remarkable contributions to Satriya dance and acting.

Morigaon: The Desh Ratna Awards-2025 was organized on Tuesday evening at Kamani Auditorium, Mandi House, New Delhi, by the Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Defence, and Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, in collaboration with the premier institution Bharti Yuva Welfare Association (Bharat) under the Government of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi.

The event was graced by Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Uttar Pradesh Labour and Employment Minister Raghuraj Singh, former Uttar Pradesh Education Minister Dr. Satish Chandra Dwivedi, Bollywood actors Mushtaq Khan and Rahul R Butcher, among several other dignitaries.

Among the awardees, 10-year-old Shikhi Kakati from Morigaon district of Assam was conferred the Desh Ratna Award-2025 for her outstanding contribution to Indian culture through Satriya dance and acting since the age of five.

Shikhi has also received several other prestigious accolades, including the Rashtra Seva Samman, Bharatiya Ratna Samman, Rashtriya Pratibha Samman, Bharatiya Sutrakari Samman, National Excellence Achievers Award, Swami Vivekananda Pride Achievers Award, and Rashtriya Seva Samman Ratna - 2025 (National Gem of Service).

She is the daughter of young writers and poets Montu Kumar Nath and Junmoni Kakati. Shikhi is receiving training in Satriya dance and acting under the guidance of Prasanna Kumar Medhi, Tapas Bardoloi, and Utpala Hokai at Shankari Sangeet Vidyalaya under Srimanta Sankardev Sangha in Morigaon. She is currently a Class V student at Mahendra Kandali Academy, Morigaon.
