Assam: 12th National Handloom Day observed at Mushalpur

KOKRAJHAR: The Handloom & Textiles Department of BTC on Friday celebrated the 12th National Handloom Day at the Cultural Complex, Mushalpur, highlighting the rich handloom heritage of Bodoland and honouring the dedication and craftsmanship of its weavers.

Maheswar Basumatary, Executive Member of the Handloom & Textiles Department, BTC, attended the programme as the chief guest, while EM Augusta Tigga, MLAs Thaneswar Basumatary and Maneswar Brahma attended as guests of honour, along with other guests, including MCLAs Arjun Daimary and Ridip Kr Deka, former EM Ansumwi Khungur Boro, former MCLA Moonsing Brahma, government officials, master weavers, representatives of PWCS, and artisans.

Addressing the gathering, EM Maheswar Basumatary said that National Handloom Day has been observed since 2015 to recognise the invaluable contribution of handloom weavers to India's rich textile heritage. He also announced financial assistance of Rs 10,000 each to 25 Primary Weavers' Co-operative Societies (PWCS).
