Tinsukia: An eviction drive was conducted by the railway department in collaboration with the district administration of Tinsukia on June 13 against 'illegal encroachments on railway land at Tinsukia to Sripuria Gaon near L-Xing gate (Sripuria road at Railway level crossing, Tinsukia).

A total of 151 houses which are illegally occupied have been identified and the railway department has served an eviction notice to those who are residing there.

"We are clearing the illegal encroachments where a Rail Over Bridge (ROB) is supposed to get constructed. This is primarily a railway line where the eviction drive is going on now. Railway authorities along with district administration have carried out the eviction drive," Chinmoy Pathak, Circle Officer, Tinsukia Revenue Circle said while speaking to the media in this regard.

According to reports, the district administration has empowered the two magistrates so as to ensure that the law and order situation in the area is maintained.

Meanwhile, sleuths of the Tinsukia Revenue Circle Office conducted an eviction drive at Tinsukia-Makum Road on the morning of June 11.

As per reports, the administration in a notification ordered the eviction of 14 illegal dhabas, and restaurants by the roadside. Apu's restaurant and 13 others were evicted.

The notification issued by the Tinsukia Revenue Circle Office said that the dhabas and restaurants have encroached upon roadside reserved land as per the report received from the concerned Lor Mandals (LMS) of the Tinsukia revenue circle.

The restaurants on the roadside reserved land will be evicted as per Section 18 (2) of the Assam Land and Revenue Regulation, 1886, the notification reads.
