Assam: 17-year-old girl found dead; rape and murder suspected

DIBRUGARH: The body of 17-year-old girl was recovered from the residence of one Moni Rajwar at Dhekeri Gaon in the Banipur area of Dibrugarh on Sunday night.

The minor girl was found hanging in her room from a ceiling fan but when the police reached the spot, her body was lying on the bed. It is suspected that the minor girl was raped and murdered. Police arrested four persons in connection with the murder of the girl. The accused have been identified as Biswajit Bakti, Kishore Bauri, Rohit Rabi Das alias Naga and Lohit Deka.

Talking to media persons, Dibrugarh Additional SP(HQ) Papori Chetia said, “We found the body of the minor from the residence of one Moni Rajwar, where the girl was living since the past three months. The girl hails from Makum, Tinsukia. We have sent the body for post-mortem and before that we cannot ascertain anything.”

“We have started our investigation and arrested four persons in connection with the case. Among the four, one is a minor. We have sent four of them for medical examination,” Chetia further said. She added, “When our police team reached the spot, they found the body was lying on the bed. She was found hanging from a ceiling fan. We have collected all the samples from the spot and started investigation. Right now we cannot say anything because the investigation is in the preliminary stage.”

A case no 472/ 2023 u/s 302/376 D IPC was registered at Dibrugarh police station.
