Assam: 20 Stollen Two-Wheelers Recovered by Cachar Police

SILCHAR: In a major success against the miscreants involved stealing vehicles, a team from Cachar Police was able to arrest eight thieves and recover 20 stolen two-wheelers from their possession.

A massive operation was carried out by Cachar Police under the leadership of the officer in charge of the Silchar Sadar Police Station, Amit Kumar Singh. The team carried out the operation in the Udharband, Rongpur and Baskandi areas of the Cachar district of Assam.

Cachar Police has revealed the identities of all the people arrested during the operation. They are Sakil Laskar, Dilwar Hussain Laskar, Afzal Hussain Laskar, Abul Hussain Laskar, Nand Singh, Ranjit Rabidas, Yousuf Ali, and, Rebul Uddin Laskar, all, residents of Cachar district.

The Superintendent of Police for the Cachar, Numal Mahatta mentioned the details of the operation. He mentioned that one of the main thieves, Nanda Kumar Singh, aged 60 years, resident of Rongpur of Cachar district. He had contested the Assam assembly elections in 2021 from the Udharband constituency with an All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) ticket but lost, he is the one who used to stock the stolen two-wheelers and change the number plates of the vehicles.

The total seizure included 11 motorcycles and 9 gearless two-wheelers. The police officer also mentioned that they are conducting a proper investigation to ensure if these crimes have the involvement of inter-district, interstate or even international car and two-wheeler mafia.

Meanwhile, transporting narcotics by train has seen no chance of stopping even after consignments are being captured every day. In yet another development, another consignment of narcotics was captured at the Lumding railway station. Based on specific inputs, the Railway Protection Force and the Government railway police undertook a combined operation on a train at the Lumding station. The operation was carried out on the Down Kanchenjungha Express. And they were able to seize a total of nine packets of contraband cannabis during the search.
