Guwahati: At least 217 employees of Assam Fisheries Development Corporation (AFDC) Ltd may be shown the door following the allegations that they joined the corporation by adopting illegal means.

As per reports, the employees have also been served a show-cause notice seeking an explanation that why they should not fire from their jobs.

The employees have been asked to submit their replies on or before July 28.

The development came after a committee headed by the Additional Chief Secretary found that these employees were appointed by adopting illegal means.

Following the committee's report, the AFDC MD served a notice to the employees which said that after verifying all the relevant documents, it appeared that they were appointed illegally without any advertisement or interview.

''If they (accused employees) fail to submit a satisfactory reply before the date, they will show door as they will be dismissed from service. The state government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, and the guilty won't be spared,'' media reports quoted State Fisheries Minister Parimal Suklabaidya as saying.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA Ramakanta Deuri has also been under the scanner as these employees were inducted during his tenure as the Chairman of the Assam Fisheries Development Corporation.

However, Deuri denied the allegations and claimed that the accused were given jobs on a daily payment basis.
