Assam: 22-Year-Old Woman Severely Injured in Knife Attack, Police Officer Opens Fire

A 22-year-old woman is in critical condition at Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) after a knife attack in Hatigaon. The accused was apprehended, and a police officer fired during the incident.

GUWAHATI: A 22-year-old woman was severely injured in a knife attack in Hatigaon, Guwahati, Assam. The accused, identified as Azul Haque, allegedly approached her from behind and stabbed her in the neck before fleeing the scene. However, locals apprehended Haque after a brief chase.

He was taken into the police custody, but tried to flee pushing aside the police officer, despite multiple warnings to stop. In response the police officer fired in blank and was injured by a gunshot on his left leg and he is being admitted to GMCH.

The victim, identified as Sonali Das, was immediately taken to Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) with a severe neck injury and a minor hand injury. Despite receiving medical treatment, the woman remains in critical condition, fighting for her life at the hospital. According to the report, she was being blackmailed by him since a long time.

Meanwhile, a tragic incident rocked New Year celebrations in Shillong, as a family rushed their 23-year-old son to the hospital after he was stabbed on January 1.

The victim, identified as Deva Kharkongor, sustained critical injuries after being stabbed with a pair of scissors. He was attacked at approximately 9:38 PM near the Ghumti parking lot in Shillong’s Cantonment area and was rushed to NEIGRIHMS for treatment. The injuries included a deep stab wound on the left side of his ribs and severe damage to his right eye.

The victim's mother, Mera Kharkongor, filed an FIR at the Jhalupara police outpost against the accused, identified as Saidin Ali. However, the suspect remained on the run.
