Assam: 225 patients get free eye treatment in Golaghat

GOLAGHAT: A total of 225 patients were given free eye treatment in a camp started by Priyangdeep Kakati, a prominent social worker from Golaghat. Doctors and medical staff from Jorhat Lions Eye Hospital, along with the traders’ association of the area, thronged Bagijan in Khumtai constituency on the border of Golaghat-Karbi Anglong district to check up their eyes. In the eye camp, 225 patients were given free treatment besides identifying a total of 24 patients suffering from complex eye diseases and these people were taken to Lions Eye Hospital in Jorhat by bus for eye surgery.

Stating that it is a humanitarian act to provide proper medical care to these people who have not received medical care due to various difficulties, entrepreneur and youth leader Priyangdeep Kakati informed the people that such camps would be organized regularly in the hinterlands.

A section of poor people suffering from eye diseases thronged the place since morning after the news of the camp spread. A total of 56 people were also provided eye glasses free of cost in this camp. The operation of patients will be done completely free of cost through NRL’s Social Responsibility Scheme. Young leader Priyangdeep Kakati’s initiative has been appreciated by various quarters.
