Assam: 268th Edition of Bukakhesa Bhaona Organised Successfully
The event is a traditional celebration of Janmashtami or the birthday of Lord Krishna.

JAMUGURIHAT: The famous Bukakhesa Bhaona was successfully organised in the Patalor Chuk village with a two-day schedule. This year saw the 268th edition of the event.
The Bukakhesa Bhaona is mentioned to be one of the heritage events of the state and this year’s two-day event came to an end on the evening of Thursday. The event is a traditional celebration of Janmashtami or the birthday of Lord Krishna.
Devotes from all across the state visited the locality to celebrate the event in the traditional way. The local people have the belief that taking blessing in the celebration helps in fulfilling their wishes and that if the Bhaona is not organised, tragedy may befall the local people.
The 268th Sri Krishna Janmashtami and the historic Bokakhesha Bhaona, one of the oldest bhaona traditions of the greater Jamugurihat area, is scheduled to be held at Patalor Chuk Naamghar premises with a two-day programme on September 6 and 7, stated a press release issued a few days back by Tulashi Bhuyan, president and Niren Kataky, secretary of Patalor Chuk branch of Srimanta Sankardev Nam Dharma Samaj.
This year, the mega religious as well as cultural event was convened by the Patalor Chuk branch of Srimanta Sankardev Nam Dharma Samaj in collaboration with the general public of the area. According to the press release, Sri Krishna Janmashtami drama will be enacted on the first day while Bokakhesha bhaona will be performed on the second day. The organizing committee has made a humble appeal to all for their active participation and cooperation.
International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Guwahati had also announced the organizing of a three-day annual 'Sri Sri Krishna Janmashtami Mahotsava 2023' on September 6, 7, and 8 with a programme in the Rukmini Krishna Temple-cum-cultural complex premises at South Sarania, Ulubari. On September 6, the eve of the Sri Krishna Janmashtami Mahotsava 2023, there will be Krishna Bhajan-Kirtan and Sandhya Arati in the afternoon. On September 7, the festival will begin with Mangal Arati, to be followed by Akhanda Harinaam Kirtan, Darshan Arati, Mahamantra Chanting Walk, Sandhya Arati, Abhishek by Donors, Maha Abhishek by Pujaris, and Maha Arati with 108 lamps, along with Prasattam distribution to the pilgrims all day long.
