NAGAON: The 2nd Simolu Festival commenced on February 15 at BWISANG-NA, an ethnic eco-resort in Barunguri, Laokhowa, to witness the lovely Bombax ceiba flowers. The two-day celebration offers visitors a chance to connect with nature in various activities set against the stunning backdrop of the Simolu track.
All the participants cycled along the beautiful route, on which the colors of the flowering Shimul fill the landscape amid wetlands and grasslands brimming with fauna. Dr. Sonali Ghosh, the Field Director at Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, said about the experience, "The scenic views turn the act of cycling into a stunning tour through one of nature's greatest spectacles."
The first day of the festival was camping at Bwisang-Na, where the guests had a culinary display of ethnic cuisine, showcasing the rich heritage of the region. The cultural performances also added to the celebratory mood, giving the guests a taste of the local culture.
On 16th February, the festival went on with a cyclothon event from the eco-resort, where the cyclists rode along Donduwa Beel, noticing the rich variety of flora and fauna in the region. There was a debriefing session afterwards, emphasizing the ecological value of the region and the need for conservation.
The festival also sought to enlighten future generations, as local students walked through a nature walk. The involvement was appreciated with a certificate distribution ceremony that encouraged environmentalism. Dr. Ghosh clarified that the Simolu Festival is a celebration of community, culture, and the environment, underscoring the need to preserve ecological heritage.
