Assam: 3 Detained Over Human Sacrifice In 2019 Ambubachi Mela

GUWAHATI: Three people were detained by the Crime Branch on Sunday, in connection with a criminal action involving human sacrifice that occurred during the 2019 Ambubachi Mela at the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati.

A middle-aged woman's headless body was discovered near a temple to Durga in the Nilachal Hills, and it has been reported that at least four persons were involved in the human sacrifice crime.

Yet, only three of them were detained.

The woman was murdered somewhere, and her beheaded body was later placed on the grounds of Kamakhya's Jai Durga Temple.

Despite the fact that the event occurred in 2019, the police had no information that could have identified the perpetrators.

Three of the accused were taken into custody on Sunday by the crime branch after four years on the run. According to the sources, the suspects are being interrogated in a private location.

Before the Ambubachi Mela on June 19, 2019, a middle-aged woman's decapitated body was discovered close to the Durga Temple. At that time, police officials stated that the deceased's identification had not yet been determined.

They added that the body showed no signs of struggle, suggesting that she may have been rendered unconscious before being hacked to death.

When Kali Puja was being observed at Sivasagar's Demowmukh, three people, among them a lady, were detained for attempting to sacrifice five children. The neighbourhood residents came to the aid of the five kids, including the accused's child.

The accused, Jamiul Hussain, Shafiul Hussain, and Ayesha Begum, were turned over to the Sivasagar police by the locals.

Initial reports stated that the accused mother had claimed to have a spiritual connection to Kali and that a Tantrik had counseled her to sacrifice five children at midnight during Kali Puja.

In addition, the offenders held to the superstition and barbaric traditions that they would be lucky in collecting fortune and property if they sacrificed human beings.
