Barpeta Police have arrested three youths, employed in a contractor firm making Ayushman Bharat cards for beneficiaries, for producing and distributing fake cards of the scheme.

BARPETA: As many as three youths were arrested by the Barpeta Police for their involvement in manufacture and distribution of fake cards of the Ayushman Bharat Scheme.

Three youths arrested have been identified as Dhanjit Baishya, Rezaul Haque and Dhruvajyoti Talukdar. As per information, Dhanjit Baishya belongs to Chenga area while Rezaul Haque and Dhruvajyoti Talukdar are residents of Shuk Manah and Shanti Nagar areas of Barpeta town respectively.

It is known that the arrested trio were employed in a contractor firm involved in making Ayushman Bharat cards for beneficiaries.

Based on an FIR registered at the Barpeta Police Station by District Health Officer Debasree Bora, the three youths were arrested.

It may be mentioned here that the Ayushman Bharat National Health Protection Scheme is a public health insurance fund by the Government of India that is particularly targeted towards providing free health insurance to individuals having low incomes. It may be added that roughly the bottom 50% of the citizens of the country by income can be beneficiaries of this scheme.

Among the many requirements of the scheme, it is mandatory for potential beneficiaries to have their names included in the census of 2011. But as alleged, the three youths arrested by Barpeta Police, provided Ayushman Bharat scheme cards to many people who names are not mentioned in the census of 2011.

It is also reported that one of the arrested Rezaul Haque by utilising his position at the card manufacturing unit, prepared such a card for his wife.

Also, the police said the trio have been providing fake Ayushman Bharat cards to many other people in the Barpeta district.

Meanwhile, the Barpeta Police have taken the arrested trio into their custody for five days. Their interrogation is underway and more people are likely to be arrested in the days to come, as stated by the Police.
