Karbi Anglong: Three members of the newly formed Karbi United Liberation Army (KULA) were arrested and one was injured during an encounter with the police here on Wednesday morning.

The encounter ensued between police and militants in the Manja area of Karbi Anglong district after the former reached the spot following inputs about the outfit's activities.

Seeing the police personnel, the militants opened fire on them following which the Police too retaliated and injured one militant.

Along with two arrested militants, the self-declared chairman named DP Kronjang alias Daniel Teron of the group was also nabbed by Assam police.

Besides this, some weapons and ammunition were also seized.

"The chairman of the militant outfit DP Kronjang alias Daniel Teron, was injured during the encounter. We have arrested two other leaders of the newly floated militant outfit and recovered arms, ammunition, dresses, letter pad, etc from the site," Pushpraj Singh, superintendent of police (SP) of Karbi Anglong district was quoted as saying in media reports.

The two other arrested militants were identified as Sedeng Tungan alias Pronob Timung, and Arak Ejang alias Thengtom Hanse.

Meanwhile, taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, Assam Special Director General of Police (DGP), GP Singh said that police will leave no stone unturned to stabilize peace in the Hill districts of Assam.

''Some misguided youths wanted to bring disquiet to Karbi Anglong through extortion & violence by forming Karbi United Liberation Army (KULA) @karbianglongpol has dismantled the fledgling group and arrested three persons including the SS Chairman Daniel Teron,'' he tweeted.
