Assam: 4 Cattle-Lifters Arrested and Handed Over to Margherita Police

Four cattle-lifters were held, chastised, and handed over to Margherita Police.

DIGBOI: At least four cattle-lifters were held, chastised, and handed over to Margherita Police here on Sunday morning. The alleged cattle thieves were identified as Bitu Gogoi, Ranjit Phukan, Bipul Barua, and Atul Dihingya. They belonged to the Margherita and Digboi areas.

The incident occurred at Masegaon village under Margherita Police Station in Tinsukia district. Meanwhile, besides rescuing cattle from their possession, the Margherita Police also recovered a four wheeler bearing registration number AR129330.

The infuriated local residents held the group and beat them black and blue before handing them to the police. According to local residents, of the four, two youths belonged to Masegaon village, one of them was from Jagun while the identity of the fourth is yet to be ascertained.

The police were interrogating the accused, having completed a medical examination till the time of filling the report.

It is pertinent to add here that the agrarian people in Margherita Subdivision, Digboi, one of the worst affected belts, have been spending sleepless nights due to unabated rise in cattle-theft incidents over a period of time.
