Assam: 53-year-old coronavirus patient from Hailakandi passes away, toll rises to 7

Guwahati: A Covid-19 positive woman from Assam's Hailakandi has died in the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) on Friday, sending the death toll rising to 7.

Officials disclosed that the latest casualty in the state, a 53-year-old resident of Bakrihower Part I under Algapur revenue circle, had gone to Delhi along with her son, who is a cancer patient. He is also undergoing treatment at the SMCH. 

After the duo tested positive for the virus, the local administration had declared Bakrihower Part I as a containment zone. Previously, a 65-year-old man from Borjurai village under Hailakandi revenue circle had died at SMCH on April 10. He had been infected with the Covid-19 after attending the Markaz Nizamuddin gathering in the national capital.

5 other persons from Kamrup Metro, Tinsukia, Kamrup R, Karbi Anglong, and Sonitpur, have also died from complications.

Assam has so far reported 3,430 cases of the Covid-19, out of which 1,883 are active cases. As many as 1,537 patients have been discharged after recovering from the respiratory ailment.

The Government has informed that as on May 11, 71,980 persons have been screened at airports, while 60,619 passengers have been screened at land ports. At the same time, 3,04,222 persons who have arrived from Covid-19 affected regions, have been enrolled for observation, out of which 1,41,212 persons have completed an observation period of 28 days, while 1,51,398 persons have completed observation period of 14 days.

It needs mention here that the number of Covid-19 positive cases in India has continued to rise at a dramatic rate, and 2,97,535 coronavirus cases have been registered so far, data from the Union Health Ministry showed this morning, crossing the COVID-19 tally of the United Kingdom. At the same time, 8,498 people have lost their lives due to complications.
