Six teenage boys, aged 13 to 15 years, were arrested in Karimganj district of Assam for allegedly raping a minor girl and filming the incident in one of their mobile phones.

GUWAHATI: In a shocking incident, as many as six teenage boys have been apprehended by the police on Tuesday for allegedly raping a minor in Karimganj district.

Aged between 13 and 15 years, the accused boys were arrested based on a complaint by the victim's family. As per information. the accused boys were from the tea gardens in Ramkrishna Nagar area of Karimganj.

The victim is a minor girl aged 13 years who was gangraped by the six accused on November 1.

The family of the victim filed a complaint at the Ramkrishna Nagar Police Station in Karimganj.

Ramkrishna Nagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nilovjyoti Nath has stated that the complaint has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act or POCSO Act on Tuesday.

OC Nath said, "The incident happened five-six days before and the family members of the victim complained about it on November 7. Based on the complaint, we have registered a case under POCSO Act and arrested the accused six teenage boys on Tuesday."

As per the complaint from the victim's parents, the miscreants forcefully entered their premises. The family in their complaint said that the boys one after the other raped the girl while one of them was engaged in shooting a video.

The minor girl who was also assaulted in the process initially hesitated to share the horrific incident with her parents. But finding it hard to bear the trauma, she later spoke it out.

During police investigation, the mobile phone of one accused has been seized as he recorded the scene and shared the video with others.

As per information, the six accused who were later produced in the court following their arrest have been sent to juvenile home.

"We have produced the accused before the court and sent them to the observation room because all of them are minors and aged below 18 years. Our investigation is underway," said OC Nilovjyoti Nath.
