Assam: 60-Year-Old Lady Shot And Killed In Chirang District, Suspect Nabbed

CHIRANG: On November 11, an unnamed group of criminals shot and killed a 60-year-old woman in the Panbari neighborhood of Chirang district.

The person responsible for the death of a 60-year-old woman in Panbari, under Bijni subdivision of Chirang district, has been apprehended by Chirang Police.

The woman was hit by just one bullet, according to the police, before she passed away due to excessive bleeding.

Police began their investigation after a case was reported to Panbari police station.

The murderer has now been detained by the Chirang Police, who are also in possession of the murder weapon.

According to ADSP Prakash Medhi Chirang, a police officer, "On November 11th, a 60-year-old woman was shot by unidentified miscreants at Panbari village. Police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident.

As we investigated the case, we were successful in arresting the suspect who was involved in the murder and has also recovered the gun used in the crime within 72 hours of investigation," he said.

The almost 40,000 criminal cases in Guwahati that have not been addressed since 1992 and the police's failure to find case diaries for 16,000 of these cases, per sources, portray a grim picture of crime control in the capital city. Criminal cases that are still pending encourage offenders to commit more crimes and diminish the fear of punishment in people who have criminal tendencies.

The recent spate of daylight robberies, kidnappings, and killings in the city have contributed to the idea that the Gateway to the Northeast is quickly becoming hazardous.

Even though the police have made quick progress in some cases, it is still challenging for them to deter crimes, carry out investigations, and handle the growing number of open cases in the rapidly growing metropolis due to a lack of staff and infrastructure support.

Compared to 1,658 instances in 2020, the State registered 1,835 rape cases in 2021. In 2021, there were 4,511 assaults with the goal to offend modesty and 563 attempts at rape. Nine incidences of acid attacks on women were reported in Assam in 2021, up from two in 2020.
