DIGBOI: ‘Established in the year 2014, the RD Senior Secondary School during its decadal long academic journey has contributed for the educational cause of the meritorious economically disadvantaged students of Upper Assam providing scholarships,” said Manoj Dhanowar, the former MD of the college.

Dhanowar was speaking during a programme linked to ceremonial handing over of scholarships to the deserving students for the current session here on Friday at the college auditorium.

60 deserving HSLC passed out and HS pursuing students from Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Charaideo districts were provided with the free benefits for two complete years.

“We are proud to be a part of the nation building agenda boosting the morale of the poor students to pursue their higher education and be the asset for the nation,” said Dhanowar who has also been one of the trustee members of the RD Educational and Sports Foundation.

According to school management committee, as many as 60 students of Higher Secondary first and second year were provided with the two years of free education with a robust support system.

The RD College, one of the premier educational set up in the state in its decadal long journey has so far provided scholarship to around 600 students since its inception, said Manash Saikia one of the senior administrator of the college.

“Unlike other politicians who prioritize other relevant sectors of economy to help the society, Rameswar the former Congress Minister of Assam Dhanowar gifted Digboi and Assam as a whole with the RD School and college -a perfect centre of learning thus helping nation producing quality human resource,” said Dilip Bhattacharya the former principal of Sowmer Vidyapith during his speech. We remain indebted for his contribution in the educational realms of the state.

Bhattacharya also encouraged the students to remain steadfast to their goal beside counselling them on various aspects of a student life including quality friends circle. Fate of a nation is determined by its students and this is what RD strives to deliver to the students across the state to be a catalyst in society, added the educationist.

Representatives of various students organisations including AASU, AAGSU, ATTSA, AJYCP, AAMSU and AASKSU hailed the initiative of the college promoting the economically disadvantaged students, helping them to overcome financial barriers and access quality education.

“Had it not been for the RD college to support me on time, I would not have been able to leave my tea garden premises pursuing my PhD today’, said Chandan Suri an active adivasi leader of Digboi while expressing gratitude to the school management committee.

It is relevant to add here that the academic performance of the college in the recently declared HS final speaks in volume about its educational quality.

With its 100 percent success rate, as many as 85 students scored distinction, 191 star marks and 1,086 letter marks thus adding an extra feather to the college.
