Assam: 7 Dead In Two Separate Road Mishaps In Nagaon, Tezpur

GUWAHATI: As many as seven people lost their lives in two separate tragic road accidents in Nagaon and Sonitpur districts of Assam on Monday.

In the first incident reported from Nagaon district, five people were killed when their four-wheeler rammed into a speeding truck on Monday night. The incident happened along National Highway 37 in Hatiekhua of Kaliabor sub-division in the district.

As per the police, the five on board a Hyundai Aura vehicle were en route Tezpur for attending a wedding party. It is further learnt that all five hailed from Bokakhat in Golaghat district.

The victims have been identified as Bibek Das, Sanjay Das, Sameer Paul, Vikash Sarma and Sandeep Paul.

Speaking to reporters, a police official said, "We received information that an accident took place in the Hatiekhua Chariali area. We rushed to the spot."

The official added, "The car was coming from the Bokakhat side and the truck was coming from the opposite direction. All five passengers of the car died."

Another police official said, "We have seized the truck, but the driver and the handyman managed to escape before we reached the spot."

Meanwhile, in a separate incident reported from Niz Bihaguri area of Tezpur, two youths lost their lives when their motorcycle crashed into a truck.

The deceased have been identified as Biju Singh and Suman Talukdar. In this case, the police have seized the truck.

It may be recalled here that the state has witnessed many tragic accidents in the last few days. Earlier on November 16, total of six persons lost their lives with several others injured in two separate road accidents in Nalbari district of the state.

Another tragic road mishap was reported Loharkatha along the Hajo-Doulashal road in Nalbari district on November 11. In the incident that happened due to collision between a motorcycle and four-wheeler, 1 person lost his life while 5 others were seriously injured.
