Assam: 9 Minors Flee from Child Home in Jorhat Rescued

Reportedly, similar incidents of children running away from the children's home have also been witnessed in the past.

In a shocking incident at Assam's Jorhat, 9 minors escaped from a local Children's Home, in Malow Ali area alleging that the authorities deprived them of proper food.

Acting swiftly on the information, Assam police in a search operation rescued seven of the nine children who escaped during the wee hours of the night on Monday. The team of local police continued the search operation and following a tip off rescued the other two minors.

Reportedly, similar incidents of children running away from the children's home have also been witnessed in the past.

It may be mentioned that, a trust called Shankar Madhab Kristi Bikash Kendra runs the boarding home for the children.

However on being contacted, authorities of the children's home blatantly denied the allegation that the inmates are being deprived of proper and nutritious food.

The authority further claimed that one of the boys, who is also an inmate here, instigated the others to escape. "They fled from the Home by breaking open the hinges of a veranda gill," the authority added.

Earlier in June, Four Minor boys have escaped from children's home in Jorhat, Assam on Sunday. Two of the minors, both 10 years old, belonged to Mokokchung in Nagaland and the other two aged 12 and 13 years respectively, hailed from Assam. The children's home in Choladhara area in Assam's Jorhat district is run by Nagaon-based NGO Shankar Madhab Krishti Bikash Kendra. After the escape of the four minor boys from the children's rescue home, all police stations in Assam have been alerted.

The superintendent of the children's home, Tukumoni Dutta lodged a police complaint after the minors go missing, said Padmadhar Kalita, the investigating officer of the case.

Kalita mentioned that the minors who are all boys ran away at about 6:45 on Sunday after removing the grill of a dilapidated window.
