NAGAON: The 95th annual session of the Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha, Nagaon district unit, concluded successfully yesterday here. The three-day long event, which began on January 31, was held at the Pathari Chariali in Nagaon.
The final day’s programme began with the hoisting of the dharmadhwaja flag by the newly elected President of the Nagaon district branch Chena Ram Deka followed by the Bhagawat Shobhayatra, which was inaugurated by Profulla Chandra Bora, former general secretary of the sangha. The open session, presided over by Chena Ram Deka, was inaugurated by Bipul Saikia, Secretary of the Nagaon district branch.
Chief guest Bhabendra Nath Deka, Padadhikar of the sangha, delivered a keynote speech highlighting the significance of Shankardev’s literature and culture in inspiring the Assamese people.
Dulal Kumar Barua, President of the publicity department of the Darang district branch, spoke about Shankardev’s life and philosophy. Other dignitaries, including senior scribe Harendra Bora, also addressed the gathering.
The event also featured a cultural programme in the evening, where noted actor-cum-comedian Siddhartha Sarma from Beharbari Outpost, a TV serial, and other artistes performed. A souvenir titled ‘Prana Bandhob’ was released by Dilip Bora, Principal of Ramanujan Junior College. Several distinguished guests, including Jyoti Prasad Bhuyan, Tapan Kumar Baidya, and Yashvir Singh, attended the event.
