Assam: AAGSU Felicitated Meritorious Students at Gorkha Bhawan

JAMUGURIHAT: In a public meeting convened by the Sootea regional committee of All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU), a total of two hundred fifty meritorious students who passed the HSLC and HS examinations were felicitated on Tuesday. The meeting was held at the Gorkha Bhawan located at Gorpal on the southern part of Sootea with Dhuraj Bhanadri, President of the regional committee in the chair.

At the very outset of the meeting, the institutional flag was hoisted by the President which was followed by offering of floral tribute by Ganesh Ghimire, Secretary of the regional committee. It was followed by a community plantation drive inaugurated by Krishna Katowal and Bimal Khanal. The open session was held in the auditorium of the Gorkha Bhawan with Dhiraj Bhandari in the chair. Ganesh Ghimire explained the objectives while Prakash Khanal, Secretary of Biswanath district committee AAGSU, graced the event as an appointed speaker.

The meeting was addressed by Mina Devi Rajput, Managing Director of Orient Flower Senior Secondary School, Lalit Subba, retired Teacher, Chhatraman Subba, recipient of Sahitya Akademi Translation prize,  Anjan Baskota, recipient of Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar, Biraj Gogoi, MD, Gyan Jyoti Academy, Dr Chinta Mani Sharma, Principal of Biswanath College, Dilip Gajuerl, Vice-President of the central committee of AAGSU, and Dipali Devi, ZPC member.

A total of 250 meritorious students were felicitated by the regional committee with citations, gamosas and packets of books. Chhatraman Subba, recipient of Sahitya Akademi Translation prize, was accorded a special felicitation by the regional committee with a citation and gamosa. The meeting was attended by Khagen Basnet, Siba Thapa, Gobin Thapa, Shantaram Lama, Keshab Raout, Churamani Sarma, Pranjal Pratim Bora, and Numal Bhattarai along with the dignitaries of the area. All the proceedings were conducted by Ganesh Ghimire, Ajit Dhakal, and Sanjay Pandey.
