SIVASAGAR: The All Assam Tai Ahom Students’ Union (AATASU) held a protest in Sivasagar, urging the government to take proper steps to preserve ancient Ahom-era monuments. Over 500 members and supporters participated in a march from the Local Boarding Field to Dolomukh Chariali, where they staged a demonstration.

AATASU blamed the authorities for neglecting these historical sites, leading to their deterioration and illegal encroachment. Although a district survey identified more than 500 monuments, little effort has been made to protect them, as per allegations.

The union set a deadline for the government to take action, emphasizing the cultural and historical importance of these monuments. AATASU President Basanta Gogoi stressed the need for immediate restoration to safeguard Assam’s heritage.

Meanwhile, ambulance workers of Assam’s 108 Mrityunjoy service, operated by GVK EMRI, are struggling for their rights while continuing to save lives. For months, they have demanded timely salaries, fair treatment, and better working conditions, but authorities have remained unresponsive. Frustration is growing, and workers warn of mass protests if their grievances are ignored.

Employees accuse the company of prioritizing profits over patient care. Many ambulances remain out of service due to staff shortages, delayed maintenance, and fuel shortages, affecting emergency response. Workers also report salary delays, unexplained deductions, and unfair transfers, despite an official directive from the Labour Commissioner.
