SIVASAGAR: Aayush Garg, an IAS officer from the 2016 batch, District Commissioner of Sivasagar district, has been conferred with the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration 2023 under the category of Holistic Development of a District. The award recognizes his exemplary leadership and successful implementation of development initiatives in Barpeta district during his tenure there.

The prestigious national award was presented in the presence of Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi at a formal ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on April 21.

Aayush Garg’s tenure in Barpeta was marked by significant strides in holistic development. His efforts led to measurable improvements across the district, making it a model for integrated governance and inter-departmental coordination.

Reflecting on his journey in Barpeta, Garg shared that arriving in Barpeta three years ago was marked by a sense of excitement and adventure. Faced with a complex geography and a richly diverse population, the initial challenges were significant. However, under a clear vision and with consistent support from the government, a capable and committed team quickly brought about visible change across the district.

He dedicated the recognition to the entire team, from senior officials to grassroots functionaries, and extended his best wishes to all those who contributed to Barpeta’s success, especially the line department officials whose coordinated efforts propelled the district forward.

“A sense of transformation began to take root early on. I was fortunate to have a team one can only wish for—driven, collaborative and mission-focused. The government’s strong backing gave us the momentum we needed,” Garg said after arriving in Sivasagar from New Delhi on Tuesday. Garg is currently serving as the District Commissioner of Sivasagar district.
