GUWAHATI: An accident that took place on the campus of the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati led to the death of a student.

The incident reportedly took place when the student was on his bicycle. He was moved to a private medical facility soon after the accident took place, but he later breathed his last while still in medical care.

According to reports, the name of the victim was Ankit Singh and he was a resident of the Barak Hostel of the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. He originally belonged to Rajasthan and had shifted to the institution a few months back for his education. Following the development, the body was reportedly kept in the morgue of the hospital awaiting his family members to identify and receive the same.

Previously, two major accident cases were reported on Wednesday night in Guwahati. The first accident took place in the Silpukhuri area on Wednesday night, resulting in damage to multiple vehicles. A Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire bearing registration number AS 07 B 9565 rammed into a parked four-wheeler vehicle and two-wheelers in the Silpukhuri area. Although multiple vehicles were damaged in the incident, no one was reported to be injured. Bystanders, however, mentioned that three people fled from the vehicle, which caused the accident, while one more was detained by the police. The cause of the accident has not been known, and Guwahati traffic police personnel are looking into the matter.

In another case, the second accident took place in the Maligaon area on Wednesday night. This accident took place late at night, around 1:30 AM. According to sources, a hatchback vehicle coming from the Jalukbari side collided with a sedan vehicle. Two people sustained minor injuries in the incident and were given medical care. It was mentioned that the brakes on the hatchback vehicle had failed, but the same has not been confirmed and the police are looking into the incident.
