Assam: Actor, Fitness Trainer Bhaskar Tamuly Arrested in Harassment Case

GUWAHATI: Actor and gym trainer Bhaskar Tamuly has been taken into custody in a case of harassment lodged by a young woman at the Panbazar Women Police Station in Guwahati.

The arrest has raised public interest as Tamuly is a well-known face in the entertainment and fitness circuit.

The woman's complaint states that Tamuly had threatened to share her photographs on social media. This was a serious charge that prompted the police to file a case (Case No. 39/25) under various sections of the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita — namely Sections 123, 351(3), 78, 79, 296, and 117(2).

Further, recourse has been invoked under the Information Technology Act, specifically Sections 67 and 67(a), which are related to publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form.

Tamuly was arrested soon after the complaint and is presently lodged in the Panbazar Women Police Station. He will be produced in court on the next day, where the investigation authorities are likely to apply for his custody for further questioning and collection of evidence.

The police said the case has been handled with extreme seriousness, considering the nature of the allegations and the digital evidence.
