Assam: ADP College Principal Arrested Over Sexual Harassment Charges

GUWAHATI: The principal of ADP College in Nagaon has been suspended by the DHE (Directorate of Higher Education) of Assam after receiving complaints from two assistant professors of the college.

Notably, the principal identified as Dr. Surajit Kumar Bhagowati is accused of sexually harassing two lady professors of ADP College Nagaon.

The complaint petition was submitted by Monika Biswas, the assistant professor at the Department of B.Voc and Dr. Mousumi Saikia, Assistant professor at the Department of Herbal Science & Technology in ADP College.

Meanwhile, disciplinary action has been initiated against the accused principal as per the order notice issued by the director of higher education, Assam.

According to the order copy by DHE, Pending drawal of Departmental proceedings and based on the complaint petition by two assistant professors, the Principal of ADP College, Nagaon Dr. Surajit Kumar Bhagowati is placed under suspension with immediate effect.

The notice further added that during the suspension period, Dr. Surajit Kumar Bhagowati will get subsistence allowance as per FR 53 of FR and SR.

The principal is moreover ordered that he is not allowed to leave the headquarters without prior permission from the concerned authority.

According to reports, the two assistant professors had lodged complaints against the principal at the Nagaon Police Station on the basis of which a case was filed under section 354A, section 511 and section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

As informed by the police sources, the accused principal has been hiding since the past few days after the incident came to light and fled to Guwahati after complaints were registered against him.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday 13 April, Surajit Kumar Bhagowati was arrested from Guwahati by the city police after a search operation by the police officials.
