DHUBRI: Foundation has been laid for the construction of Dhubri District Museum here in the land allotted in Ward No. 1 of Dhubri town by the district administration today. In its first phase, work of the boundary wall was started and soon after its completion, construction of the District Museum would be started.

Heritage and history conservationists opined that this marks a crucial milestone in the development of the museum’s infrastructure, which will serve as a dedicated space to preserve and exhibit the district’s cultural and historical heritage.

The people associated with museum development heaved a sigh of relief as after long legal battle in the Gauhati High Court between Dhubri Ladies’ Club and State Government, verdict came in favour of thee museum and physical possession of land measuring 3 katha 10 lechha, covered by Dag no 1377, was finally handed over to the museum last year. The possession of the land was done at the instance of Dhubri District Commissioner Dibakar Nath and physical possession of the land was given to the museum by Dhubri Circle Officer Partha Pratim Barman.

Talking to The Sentinel, a former Dhubri District Museum officer said that the museum authorities are hopeful to have a museum of their own soon as work started on Wednesday. “We already have a plan for G+3 building in that area. Because presently, the museum is housed in Dhubri District Library building, where there is paucity of space,” Das added.
