Guwahati: Nearing 40 and fearing that your chances of getting a Government job have gone up in smoke? Well, fear not for the Assam Government has now extended the age limit to apply for Government jobs!

Addressing the citizens from Judges Field in Guwahati on the occasion of 74th Independence Day of India, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal declared that the upper age limit for the 3rd and 4th-grade jobs in the state will be increased to 40 years from existing 38 years.

"To provide further opportunities to unemployed youths, I would like to announce that upper age limit for 3rd & 4th Grade govt jobs will be increased from 38 to 40 years," the CM said during his address.

It is to be noted that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal led the "low-key" 74th Independence Day celebrations in Guwahati by unfurling the tricolour followed by the guard of honour ceremony.

Similar celebrations were held at all 33 district headquarters which were attended by cabinet ministers. Notably, the state's main Independence Day event was held at Judges' Field in Guwahati after a gap of 12 years as the traditional venue of the playground of College of Veterinary Sciences at Khanapara has been transformed into a COVID care centre.
