Assam: AI-generated nude photo viral forces girl to commit suicide?

KOKRAJHAR: In a tragic incident, a BA 4th semester female student of Kokrajhar Government College (Sania Narzary) hailing from Athiabari-Lekhwnabari village under Serfanguri village allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in a ceiling fan in her rented room at Baganshali in Kokrajhar on February 22 in the afternoon.

The reason of her suicide could not be ascertained immediately on Saturday. The police team came to the room, took away the body for  examination and started investigation. 

Meanwhile, the parents of the girl had lodged an FIR at Kokrajhar police station on the same day in the evening against a youth-Bibek Brahma of Ballamguri, Bijni, Chirang who posted a nude photo of the girl in the social media that went viral. Family sources said the girl was a humble and simple. The viral nude photo was an AI generated one which was also forwarded to her mother by the youth, sources said, adding that mother rebuked her daughter for such viral photo that forced the girl to take the extreme option for her modesty being exploited.

Family circle also said Bibek was a former class mate of her but taking her AI generated nude photo in the social media was not only taking her life but it has posed a threat to the coming generations how AI could be so terrifying if it is not properly used. The Family members demanded strong action with the youth who played with the life of an innocent student so that such a mistake never happen to other’s life in near future.
