SIVASAGAR: The 15th State Conference of the All India Youth Federation (AIYF), a prominent left-wing youth organization, concluded successfully on Monday in the historic town of Sivasagar following a two-day programme.

During the concluding delegate session, a 35-member Assam State Council was formed to lead the organization for the next term. Abhijit Chakraborty was elected as President, Anup Gogoi as Vice-President, Krishna Gogoi as Secretary, and Riku Borgohain and Bitupan Gogoi as joint secretaries.

In the statement released to the press by newly-elected Joint Secretary Riku Borgohain, the State Committee adopted several key resolutions. Among them was the demand to grant constitutional protection to six indigenous communities of Assam - Ahom, Moran, Motok, Chutia, Koch Rajbongshi, and Tea Tribes, through Scheduled Tribe status.

The committee also demanded that, instead of implementing the ‘Basundhara’ land regularization scheme, the government should provide land rights to indigenous people through proper settlement operations. It further called for the immediate distribution of land pattas to tea garden workers.
