KOKRAJHAR: After finding weapons and ammunition at his home on January 6, Kokrajhar police detained former MLA Hitesh Basumatary.

At the former MLA's home, the police conducted a search and found an AK-47 and an M16 weapon. Basumatary has been placed into police custody, and Kokrajhar Sadar police station is currently questioning him.

Two more people have currently been detained in this relation in addition to Hitesh Basumatary. Both Vikram Daimary, president of the Bodoland Kontark organisation, and executive president of the Bodoland Jatiya Saruksh Manch Daorao Deshreb Narzary have been detained at the Kokrajhar Sadar police station.

Deshreb Narzary's family claims that the Bodo political figure was apprehended by the Kokrajhar police after breaking beyond the boundary of Narzary's home. The reason for the arrest, however, has not yet been disclosed by the authorities.

According to sources, the police detained BPF leader and former MLA Hitesh Basumatary and Bodoland Contractors' Association head Bikram Daimary during the course of the night.

It may be recalled that the district deputy commissioner of police and the additional deputy commissioner of police were spotted in the police station, despite the fact that the police were not providing any information in this respect.

The families of the people arrested have raised concerns about the police action, saying that it was hasty and without cause. This occurrence has generated controversy in the area.

During a recent operation, the Hojai Police in Assam found illegal firearms and live ammo.

According to police officials, a suspect's home was raided based on particular information, and during that raid, the suspect's arms were found.

According to the authorities, the raid was conducted at West Dablong in the Hojai region of the state, close to Lanka town.

Shamsul Haque was the suspect whose residence was searched by the police. Officials found a 7.62 mm pistol and two magazines of live ammunition during the raid.
