Assam: Akhil Gogoi’s PA Allegedly Assaulted During Clash at Gaurisagar Block Office

GAURISAGAR: Sensation prevailed at Gaurisagar Development Block Office today evening in Sivasagar district following distribution of cheques to the naamghar committees under Assam Darpan Scheme. According to reports, the Sivasagar District Administration today evening convened a cheque distribution meeting with a view to hand over the first instalment of cheques to the respective naamghar committees covering both Sivasagar and Amguri LACs.

In the meeting, Amguri MLA Prodip Hazarika and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi were invited. But Akhil Gogoi could not attend the meeting in time and his PA Amlan Gogoi arrived there. When he arrived, the cheque distribution ceremony was going on. Seeing this, he requested Amguri Revenue Circle Officer Arup Bikramia and Gaurisagar Block Development Officer Denis Dutta to hold the meeting until the MLA arrived. At this, the BJP workers along with former Thowra MLA Kushal Duwari became angry and physically assaulted Amlan Gogoi, PA of Akhil Gogoi, and 5 other members of Raijor Dal.

In this sudden incident, Amlan Gogoi sustained injuries to his hands. After this incident, he filed an FIR at Gaurisagar Police Station against former MLA Kushal Duwari, Surjya Kagayung , President, BJP, Rongpur Mondal Committee, and Biswa Bhuyan. In the FIR, he alleged that they tried to murder him. The situation was brought under control by the intervention of the Amguri Revenue Circle Officer. Later in presence of the representatives of both Amguri and Sivasagar MLAs, the cheques were distributed.
