NAGAON: An unexpected action undertaken by the Dhing Police triggered a sensation in the Dhing region of the Nagoan district of the state. This further escalated into a war of words between the local public and the members of the local police.
The incident started at the Dhing Bazar locality of the state when members of a police team deflated the tyres of a vehicle parked on the side of the road. This triggered a sharp sensation among the people who questioned this action taken by the police without thinking.
The public raised complaints that the dumpers and tractors move without any checks in the town and the rash driving on the part of these vehicles brings risks to the lives of young students as well the general public. They also questioned how the local police suddenly come to take action against the people at 7 PM, while they are hardly ever seen doing their duties from 9 PM to 6 AM, adding that they have allowed a free hand to the dumpers and tractors to do as they wished.
It must be noted that this development has come to light after the chief minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma ordered strict action against those violating road regulations. At a time when both the transport department and police department are taking strict actions against violators among private vehicles, the people of Dhing mentioned that the same has not been seen among the commercial vehicles, especially the dumpers plying in the region. They also demanded that the senior officials of the police department take proper action against those police officials found negligent in their duties.
Recently, the Transport Department of Assam, along with the Assam Police, has taken very strict action against those who break the rules of the road. In the past few days, the departments have further increased their operations against such offences to prevent any untoward incidents from taking place. Speaking about the ongoing operations, District Transport Officer (DTO) (Enforcement) Himangshu Das informed that over 1800 cases of drunken driving have been detected in the last year alone, which is a very alarming number.
