Assam: APHLC demands re-polling in Bithung Rengthama

Howraghat: The All Party Hills Leaders Conference (APHLC) has demanded re-election in Bithung Rengthama Member of Autonomous Council constituency of West Karbi Anglong autonomous district where election was held a few months back.

The demand was made in a public rally organized by APHLC at Langsudo playground of West Karbi Anglong here on Thursday. The present Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang registered a massive victory from this constituency by defeating the APHLC nominee with a colossal margin in the just concluded election.

President of APHLC, JI Kathar and other leaders of the party, Bikrom Hanse, Rajen Timung, Sarkiri Rongphar, Kursing Timung, Longkumar Bey and Reeta Kramsapi were there at the rally.

The APHLC president alleged that the election was conducted on the basis of Panchayat rules. He also alleged that proxy voting took place and APHLC workers and polling agents were assaulted. He termed the election in this constituency as completely unlawful so re-election should take place, he said. He also announced that their agitation would continue till re-polling took place.
